Brian Riback

Music has always been a part of Brian's personal story. From hearing stories of his grandfather playing reveille for the troops during WW II, to listening to his father play saxophone in the basement of his home, music has always stood out as the foremost passion and interest for Brian. At the age of 13, Brian wrote his first song entitled, "Wait You'll See." At that time, he was in a band that played heavy metal and somehow, both the song and Brian playing saxophone in this group, just didn't seem to fit. Around this same time, Eric Clapton released, "From the Cradle" a recording featuring various songs that were originally recorded by Blues Legends such as Eddie Boyd, Leroy Carr, Freddie King and more. Suffice it to say, Brian's interests shifted to the blues. Through the years, he listened to groups such as Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers, gospel greats like Kurt Carr and began to invoke these influences into both his writing and singing styles. While in high school, Brian took his sister's copy of The Spin Doctor's, "Pocket Full of Kryptonite." When he heard Aaron on drums, he discovered something that would forever change his musical preferences...it was there all the time…but now he could really hear and feel it...the back beat. To this day, Brian claims that nobody hits a backbeat like Aaron and it is what helped create what is affectionally named, "The Riback Bop" (Brian is always happy to demonstrate this for anyone who asks). Brian discovered what would be one of his most truly guiding lights in influencing his writing and singing style in 1994 when he heard John Popper's (Blues Traveler) voice for the first time. John's lyrical style, brilliance on both vocals and harp pushed Brian over the edge, producing a heavily influenced vocal and musical styling. With a great deal of humility, Brian hopes that in some way his singing honors and is reminiscent of his greatest influences. Brian lives in North Jersey.
